According to a 2024 study by the Oxford Internet Institute, the most dangerous misinformation is not in English but in languages that existing fact-checking tools cannot read. Currently, 95% of fact-checking models operate only in English, creating significant gaps in verification for countries with multiple languages. New datasets and models exist, yet they are underutilized for multilingual misinformation verification. Sift, an open-source multi-agent fact-checking pipeline, aims to address this issue but is currently limited to English.
