A new framework for how the neocortex learns is presented.
The article describes three criteria for explaining how the neocortex learns. The only framework meeting these criteria is error-driven predictive learning, implemented in the Axon neural simulation framework. This algorithm is designed to learn across a variety of cognitively motivated tasks. The proposed approach suggests potential improvements over back propagation for training efficiency.
