NASA, 48년 된 Voyager 2를 1년 더 가동할 전력 확보

NASA가 Voyager 2의 과학 장비를 1년 더 가동할 전력을 확보했다.

NASA는 비과학 장비를 끄고 저전력 대체 장치를 적용하여 Voyager 2의 과학 장비 3개를 최소 1년 더 운용할 수 있는 전력을 확보하였다. 플루토늄 붕괴열을 이용하는 방사성 동위원소 열전기 발전기의 가용 전력은 매년 약 4W씩 감소하고 있다. 이를 통해 Voyager 2가 계속 임무를 수행할 수 있을 것이다.

NASA secured enough power to operate Voyager 2's scientific instruments for another year.

NASA has managed to secure enough power to keep three scientific instruments of Voyager 2 operational for at least another year by turning off non-scientific equipment and applying low-power alternatives. The available power from the plutonium decay heat of the radioisotope thermoelectric generator decreases by about 4W each year. This adjustment will allow Voyager 2 to continue its mission.
