Developed by Professor Sangeeta Bhatia and colleagues, the 'mini livers' technology offers new hope for patients with chronic liver disease who are unable to undergo a transplant. This innovation could assist many patients who are waiting for organ transplants or are not strong enough to tolerate the procedure. The liver plays a critical role in blood clotting, removing bacteria from the bloodstream, and metabolizing drugs.
