The U.S. Department of Justice has charged a Russian national extradited from Cyprus with using around 255 fake accounts to send malware-laden Excel attachments to about 80,000 users on a freelance platform between 2016 and 2017. Searzhudin Tamirlanovich Aktulaev was arrested in Cyprus in May 2025. This campaign highlights the ongoing issues related to cybercrime and the use of social engineering tactics.
