GNU Emacs의 최신 버전에서 Canvas 기능이 추가되어 이미지 데이터를 문자열로 전달하지 않고 픽셀 버퍼를 직접 조작할 수 있는 가능성이 열렸다. 이 기능은 Emacs Lisp에서 사용되는 이미지 객체로서, 기존 이미지 API와 호환되며 개발자들이 이미지 관련 작업을 보다 효율적으로 수행할 수 있도록 해준다. 약 8개월 간의 개발 끝에 이 새로운 기능이 Emacs 코어에 통합되었다.

The latest version of GNU Emacs introduces the Canvas feature, which enables direct manipulation of pixel buffers without passing image data as strings. This feature is compatible with existing image APIs and can be utilized as an image object in Emacs Lisp, allowing developers to perform image-related tasks more efficiently. After about 8 months of development, this new functionality has been merged into the Emacs core.
