According to a new case study by Rakesh Krishnan for Ransom-ISAC, a U.S. government entity paid approximately $1 million to prevent stolen files from being leaked. The case study is based on leaked negotiation chats and the blockchain trail left by the payment. Interestingly, the group known as Kairos may not even be a ransomware gang, as Krishnan found no evidence that they ever locked any files.
